05 Nepal's most trusted ride

Yatra

Mobile App · RidesharingOngoing

A ride-hailing platform for Nepal, still in active development, built around the transport problems commuters actually run into: unreliable rides, unclear pricing, and safety worries.

Daily commuters in Nepal deal with a familiar set of problems: it's hard to find a reliable ride, pricing is rarely transparent, tracking is unreliable, and safety is a real concern, especially for students and people commuting alone. Yatra is a team-based ride-hailing app aimed squarely at those problems, connecting riders with nearby drivers through real-time tracking, transparent fares, and secure digital payments.

My part of the project sat on the requirements and structure side: gathering and documenting requirements, defining what the product needed to do (and what it explicitly wouldn't, yet, like the admin dashboard), and structuring separate requirements for riders, drivers, and admins so the feature set stayed organized as the team designed around it. I also supported user-flow planning and helped organize the feature list into something the design and build could actually work from.

The research phase looked at existing ride-hailing platforms to pin down what riders expect by default: fast booking, live driver tracking, a clear fare breakdown before committing, secure payment, and a way to get help in an emergency. Those expectations became the backbone of the feature set: easy sign-up, pickup/drop selection with route choice, upfront fare estimates, multiple vehicle options, live tracking, SOS support, and ride history on the rider side; simple onboarding, document verification, ride-request handling, and earnings/payout tracking on the driver side.

Safety runs through the whole design, not just one feature: driver verification and background checks, live trip tracking, an SOS system, encrypted data, and a secure payment flow (including escrow handling for payments between riders and drivers). The harder design problem was keeping all of that safety infrastructure from turning the app into something overwhelming to use, especially across three different user roles with different needs.

The project is still in development. An admin dashboard for monitoring, verification, and complaint handling is scoped for a future phase, and the team is continuing to refine flows as the build progresses.
